about

This work is an archival piece from my solo exhibition held at HAKO Gallery in Chiba, Japan on February 13 and 14, 2021.
During these two days, I had three exhibitions.

The first was a recording of an installation of seven guitars and seven circulators titled 'Air', in which the guitars and circulators were arranged in an equilateral heptagon and all the guitars were tuned to D and A.
The wind pressure from the circulators caused the guitar strings to resonate, amplifying their faint vibrations and creating an intense drone.
It was a means of achieving the flood of differentials, additions, and overtones that Glenn Branca had set out to achieve with greater purity.

The second was a recording of an installation of four guitars and four open reel-to-reel recorders entitled 'Magnetic'.
In 'Magnetic', I created a loop of magnetic tape and used the torque of the reel-to-reel recorder to rub the guitar strings with the tape, forming a drone.
The joints in the loop of magnetic tape were held in place with cellophane tape, creating the sound of a guitar stroking each time the guitar passed through the tape joints.
The four tape loops are slightly different in length, and I intended for the strokes made by the joints to be heard in four separate cycles.

The third is a recording of an installation entitled 'Complex', using a eurorack synthesizer and four open-reel recorders.
In this piece, I recorded the process of four open-reel recorders overdubbing three repeating melodies on a Eurorack synthesizer, gradually forming a drone.
